accessibility statement

this site sells astrology readings and gives away a birth chart calculator. both of those should work if you use a screen reader, if you cannot use a mouse, if you need larger text, or if motion on a page makes you ill. this page says how far along that is.

01the standard we measure against

wcag 2.1 level aa. it is the version written into almost every settlement under the americans with disabilities act, and the one the european accessibility act points at through en 301 549. where wcag 2.2 adds a criterion we can meet, such as the minimum size of a thing you have to tap, we meet it too.

02what works today

the whole site has been checked with automated tooling and by hand. every page has one first level heading and a main landmark, and the first thing your keyboard reaches is a link that skips the navigation. text meets the 4.5 to 1 contrast the standard asks for, including the consent wording at checkout. links inside a paragraph are underlined, not just coloured.

the checkout can be filled in and submitted with a keyboard alone. every field has a name a screen reader will read, the date and time dropdowns are grouped under the label you can see, and if something is missing when you press pay, the page says so out loud and moves you to the field it means.

the chart wheels are not just pictures. every planet and asteroid on them is a button you can reach with tab and open with enter or space, and it says what it is when you get there. the city search is a combobox: arrow keys move through the matches, enter picks one, escape closes the list.

if your system asks for reduced motion, the drifting and twinkling backgrounds stop. nothing on the site flashes. the page can be zoomed and reflows down to a 320 pixel wide screen without sideways scrolling.

03what we know is still wrong

this section exists because a statement that only lists successes is not worth reading.

the site has not been tested end to end with voiceover or nvda by a person who uses one daily. we have checked that the markup is right, which is not the same as checking that the experience is good.

the largest text on the home page takes longer to appear than it should on a slow phone. that is a speed problem rather than an accessibility one, but it lands hardest on the people least able to wait.

some of the reading content is long and dense. we have not yet added a way to jump between sections of an article.

04tell us when something does not work

if any part of this site stops you doing something, write to privacy@sipsaftermidnight.com. say which page and what happened. you do not need to know the name of the problem.

we answer within five working days. if the fix is quick we make it and tell you. if it is not, we tell you what we are doing and roughly when, and we add it to the section above so the next person reading this knows too.
